The Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing a crucial moment for its judicial system. The work of the States General of Justice has been open since Wednesday, November 6 in Kinshasa, marking a new stage in the quest for a more equitable and effective justice system.

Under the theme "Why is the Congolese justice system described as sick?", these meetings bring together a group of actors from the judicial world, civil society and political power. The observation is without doubt that the Congolese justice system suffers from chronic ills, such as corruption, impunity, cronyism and negligence. President Félix Tshisekedi himself described this system as "sick", stressing the urgency of a profound reform.
The participants in these general meetings have the difficult task of making a precise diagnosis of the dysfunctions of the judicial system and proposing concrete solutions. The recommendations resulting from these meetings will have to be bold and courageous in order to meet the expectations of the population and restore confidence in justice. The previous meetings, organized in 2015, had already identified many problems, but their recommendations have only been partially implemented.
These general states therefore represent a decisive turning point. Their success will depend on the political will to implement the proposed reforms and the commitment of all stakeholders to work towards fairer and more accessible justice for all Congolese.
