The measures taken by the Government to guarantee, to some extent, the safety of travelers on Lake Kivu after the shipwreck of October 3, are very little followed by the shipowners. This is what the president of the shipowners of Goma indicated on Monday, October 21, demanding rigor in the regulation of lake traffic.

At the dock of the Emmanuel boat port, passengers from Bukavu disembark from the Emmanuel 2 boat. At first on board, some wear life jackets, while others do not.
However, a passenger who comes from Bukavu claims to have worn a life jacket, without worrying about the fate of the other passengers.
Further on, it is the dock of the Aganze boat that embarks the passengers. Here, visibly, it is the members of the crew who each wear a life jacket, but not the passengers.
Contacted by Radio Okapi, one of the boat's agents specified that it is inside the boat that he distributes this equipment to the travelers:
"We leave Goma at 2 p.m. Those you see do not have vests, but once inside, we will distribute them to them."
For his part, the president of the Goma shipowners says he is outraged by the behavior of certain shipowners. Some of them do not want to respect the security measures recently taken by the Government. These include, among others, respect for tonnage and the ban on evening navigation.
