Accused of mismanaging funds intended for the Ebola response in 2020, the former Minister of Public Health has been released from prison.

Honorary Minister of Public Health, Dr. Oly Ilunga has been released from Makala Central Prison since Monday, September 9, 2024 after serving his 5-year sentence.

He had been sentenced to 5 years of forced labor for mismanagement of funds intended for the Ebola response in 2020.

The Kinshasa Gombe High Court ordered his release on Monday, September 9.

He had been sentenced since March 23, 2020, to 5 years of forced labor for mismanagement of funds intended for the Ebola response in 2020.

At the end of his sentence, Honorary Minister of Health Oly Ilunga was banned from holding public or political office.

Furthermore, from 2016 to 2019, Dr. Oly Ilunga served as Minister of Public Health and in July 2019, after being accused of mismanaging funds earmarked for the Ebola response, he resigned from his position. Two months later, he was taken into police custody.
