It was this Monday, September 2, that schools officially opened their doors to welcome students throughout the national territory. In Kenge, the capital of Kwango province, this first day of the school year was very timid.

Several schools organized themselves to open the 2024-2025 edition in style. Teachers showed up early at their establishments. Only a few dozen students showed up.

This is the case of the Mbemba Institute, BP 06 Kenge 1, where five students showed up. But they quickly returned due to the lack of a significant number, as specified by the prefect of this establishment. "The students were counted on the fingers this Monday. We hope that parents will send their children to school because the train is already moving," specified the prefect Jean-Baptiste Naniaku.

At the Nto Kiese Institute, it is the same situation. The teachers were all present without receiving students. The secretary of this Catholic school told Actualite.cd that a strike movement would be in the making if the authorities failed to honor their commitment, particularly the digitization of the UN and the minimum payment of $500 in salaries. "We will soon be in serious condition and are waiting for the order from our superiors. But if all our old magazines are not taken into account, we will harden the strike," he said.

It should be noted that silence reigned in several schools in Kenge and some even had their doors closed due to lack of students.

It was from Tshikapa in the Kasai province that the Minister of National Education, Raïssa Malu, gave the go-ahead for the new school year.
